Question: Take me through what you saw on the replay to overturn the on-field ruling of a touchdown for T.J. Hockenson?
Mark Butterworth: “The ruling on the field was a touchdown, so it’s replay’s jurisdiction to stop the game. We used broadcast-enhanced shots to show that as he was going to the ground – he needs control of the ball throughout the process of the catch – he lost control of the ball. The ball hit the ground. Then, he regained control of the ball. So therefore, we overturned it to an incomplete pass.
Question: I’m not sure there’s an angle that showed that that clearly on TV, but you said you had additional angles or enhanced angles?
Butterworth: “Yes, we do have all the angles from the broadcast cameras, and so we’re able to go through and select appropriate angles to make the decision.”
Question: And obviously the standard here is that it has to be clear and obvious. So, you saw it clear and obvious that he had lost control?
Butterworth: “Yes, for us to overturn the call, it needs to be clear and obvious.”
